Welcome to my Blog!

Hey, thanks for visiting! I am the Second Life avatar known as Shaun Altman! :) A lot of people ask me questions in-world every day spanning a broad range of topics, and like most others, I have many interesting discussions in IM. I’ve always felt that a lot of these dialogs could be of benefit or just of interest to the broader community, so I’ve decided to start a blog where we can all come together and explore some of the current events in Second Life.
The content here will probably end up being pretty varied. In the near-term, I’d like to publish some of my thoughts on the World Stock Exchange, the current Ginko Financial situation and the broader Second Life economy in general. I’d also like to write a bit about what I’m up to in Second Life, the things I enjoy doing in-world and the interesting people that I meet. I’m currently tossing around the idea of authoring a series of LSL scripting guides as well, but I’m not sure if a blog is the best format for those. Let me know if you think such guides would be useful to you, and if so, how to best provide access to them via this site.
Above all else, what I’d like to accomplish here is to foster an open and welcoming environment for discussion and debate, so please don’t be shy with your comments. Its okay if you don’t agree with me, and its fine if discussions become a little heated sometimes too. I only ask that you keep your submissions clean and free of personal attacks.
If there’s anything you’d like to see more (or less) of on this blog, please let me know via blog comment or in-world IM. Second Life is all about ideas, so lets keep them flowing! Thanks again for visiting my blog! I hope that you will enjoy it!

Yay! Tell us about GPB plis :)
Hey Nicholas :')
Cant wait for your comments of the WSE. You sure screwed everyone there, how many tens of thousands did you fleece SL investors of?? You sold shares at $4 and made yourself out to be a nice guy, giving false information about large dividends that were never paid. You are not interested in SL, you are only interested in yourself.
I'll print your comments off, I need more toilet paper.
Hi Apollo,
Regarding my sale of HCL, I think I'm going to throw up an article on that topic a bit later tonight (time permitting) and talk a bit about my reasoning as well as my ongoing thoughts on the topic. These days, whenever I'm in the news, or post just about anything just about anywhere, people who bought HCL shares at higher prices than today's seem to love to stop in and chat about my sale of this stock, so I think it might be a pretty cool topic to discuss here on my blog.
Of course, I didn't fleece anyone who chose to purchase HCL shares at the time I sold them. Come what may, we each made a decision based on our feelings about World Stock Exchange's future at the time. Some of us chose to sell, some of us chose to buy, and some of us chose to do both by trying to daytrade/flip shares. So far, it has turned out that I've been in the group that was correct, but I suspect that nobody who bought my shares would be whining today if I had been wrong. Right?
On the topic of my supposedly giving false information about a large HCL dividend, I think that you are being dishonest. I most certainly could not have announced an HCL dividend, as I was not in a position to do so. In fact, my affiliation with World Stock Exchange had ended prior to my selling any stock, and I can't recall ever making any announcements at all while I was there. If you can point me to an official announcement that I made at WSE, or a press release or interview in a Second Life media source, where I stated that HCL would pay a large dividend, I'll certainly be willing to stand corrected.
I do seem to recall speculating with other shareholders from time to time about what the effects of a dividend may be though. At the time, Connell was being pretty dodgy on the topic of dividends, and it was unclear as to whether he would be paying a dividend at all, or if so how frequently or how much. The uncertainty and lack of clear information certainly led to a LOT of speculation about how a dividend or lack thereof may impact the stock value. If you participated in or listened in on one of these speculative conversations, and mistook community speculation as some sort of declaration from me that that I had some kind of insider information leading me to believe that HCL would be paying a dividend (let alone a large dividend), them I'm certainly... very sorry that you misunderstood?
